What is Child Watch?
Child Watch is a free drop-in care service included with your Alexandria Area YMCA membership. It provides safe, attentive supervision for children ages 6 weeks through 7 years old while parents and guardians use the facility.
Whether you want to attend a group exercise class, log miles on the track, or relax in the pool, you can focus entirely on your wellness knowing your little ones are in great hands just down the hall.

How to Find Child Watch
Step-by-Step Directions:
- Check in at the Welcome Desk in the main lobby.
- Walk straight down the main hallway toward the north end of the building.
- Take a right turn at the end of the hall.
- Child Watch is located directly on your right, just past Studio B
Child Watch Frequently Asked Questions
To ensure every child receives quality attention, care, and comfort, stay limits are based on your child's age group:
- Infants & Toddlers (6 Weeks – 23 Months): Maximum stay of 1.5 consecutive hours per visit.
- Preschool & Youth (Ages 2 – 7 Years): Maximum stay of 2 consecutive hours per visit.
Yes! Child Watch is free with your YMCA family membership.
No reservations are necessary. Child Watch operates on a first-come, first-served drop-in basis. If the room reaches capacity, our staff will start a short waitlist to maintain safe caregiver-to-child ratios.
No. For the safety and security of all children, parents and guardians must remain inside the Alexandria Area YMCA building or on facility grounds during the entire duration of their child’s stay.
Our staff will notify you immediately if your child requires a diaper change or assistance in the restroom.
